The Moorings at Lewes Shines Spotlight on Resident Artist Phyllis Zwarych
In an ongoing effort to embrace creativity, enhance the lives of residents, and engage the local community, The Moorings at Lewes is proud to host a lovely art exhibit by resident artist Phyllis Zwarych throughout the month of January. The exhibit, titled Art by Phyllis Zwarych, is currently on display with items available for sale in the community gallery.
All proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to The Moorings’ Resident Reserve Fund, which assists qualified residents who (through no fault of their own) have outlived their resources. This fund – fully supported by generous donations through the Foundation – was created to ensure that no resident will ever have to leave the community due to financial difficulties.
Phyllis works with acrylics and watercolors and her pieces focus on beautiful, natural landscapes. The collection includes 36 pieces, with several already purchased by The Moorings’ staff and residents. All pieces are framed and range from $50-$200.
Phyllis is a retired dentist who also taught anatomy at both the University of Kansas Medical School and the University of Kentucky. She always had an affinity for painting, but it became a more serious hobby following her retirement in 1998. She took several classes to refine her skills, and she’s continued doing so since moving to Delaware with her partner Sheila in 2008.
“The Moorings at Lewes offers our gallery wall for local artists to exhibit their work each month. It is exciting to be able to display the work of a resident’s art that showcases their talent and to have the opportunity to visualize their world,” said The Moorings’ Executive Director Annette Moore, NHA. “Phyllis has so many different mediums in which she is highly skilled and is displaying vignettes and paintings that sparks interest in so many different people. It is humbling that all of the proceeds have been dedicated to the fund that helps maintain residents to age-in-place even if finances become a concern.”
This exhibit is open to the public and offers an opportunity for both residents and guests to view and purchase Phyllis’ artwork. Visitors are welcome to stroll the gallery hall Monday through Friday from 9:00am-4:30pm (no appointment required) until January 31. Purchases can be made by cash or check (written out to The Springpoint Foundation).
