The History of The Moorings at Lewes

Our retirement community history began as early as 1996, when the leadership team of Cadbury Senior Services, Inc. decided to establish a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Lewes, Delaware. Cadbury Senior Services was a Quaker organization named after the New Jersey Cadbury family, who were prominent in the Quaker community and descendants of the founder of the Cadbury chocolate empire. Ten years of planning and dedication led to construction of Cadbury at Lewes on 35 acres adjacent to the historic town of Lewes. The first residents moved into the “only CCRC at the beach” early in 2007.

In 2017, our community became an affiliate of Springpoint Senior Living, a well-respected senior living provider with over a century of services to older adults and their families. Recently, we changed our name to The Moorings at Lewes to establish a new brand identity that reflects the Springpoint affiliation and the bright future that lies ahead for the community. Our new name reflects the community’s unique nautical surroundings and keeping Lewes in the name reflects the charming coastal town of the Delaware Bay community.

Today, our CCRC is a vital part of the Lewes senior community. Offering lifestyle choices never before available, residents enjoy vibrant independent living in our cottages and apartments, as well as supportive services like assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing.
