Ahhhhh! Connect With Nature at Our CCRC Near the Water
There’s something so calming about being near water. Maybe it’s the gentle swish of the waves on your bare feet as you stand on a sandy beach. Or, maybe it’s the miles of blue water, which kisses the sky far, far away at the horizon line. Take a deep breath – it could also be the fresh, salty air.
How about all of the above reasons and more as to why water and surrounding nature is soothing to the soul? According to a 2017 Condé Nast Traveler article, studies have shown that being near water positively impacts our health and happiness by – among other things – improving our sleep quality, lowering our blood pressure and heart rate, and strengthening the immunity system.
A Relaxing Retirement, Naturally!
For retired couple Richard and Jean Woolley, living at The Moorings at Lewes gives them access to the healing powers of nature and the ocean without losing out on a neighboring downtown area filled with fine dining, quaint shops and plenty of enriching cultural activities.
A longtime fan of nature and her bounty, Jean writes an article for the Mooring’s newsletter about the natural surroundings of the campus including wildlife and coastal habitat. And the couple loves taking leisurely walks on the paths that wind throughout the campus. Richard’s favorite part is that he doesn’t have to worry about taking care of the landscaping and maintenance of their living space. “It’s so nice to have people handling these things for us,” he said. “And they do an excellent job!”
Best of all, if inclement weather keeps the couple inside, our continuing care retirement community (CCRC) offers plenty of engaging activities and programs to fill their days. “Jean and I love the body balance exercise class,” explained Richard.
And if they weren’t already busy enough, the Woolleys are each involved with a resident committee: Rich is active with the Programming Committee and Jean is part of the Activities Committee.
